A few months ago, I was working on a project about five biblical verses I live by and why, and it was so intriguing that I thought I would share it with you. There are so many verses that I could mention, so it was kind of hard for me to pick just five.

When I was a little girl, I can remember how my grandfather, who was a pastor, used to teach us the scriptures and how to pray. I remember reciting verses and psalms without even knowing what I was doing at the time. It’s remarkable to see how these things that were instilled in me at a very young age shaped my spiritual life as an adult now.

I want to start sharing with you one of my favorites of all time I learned at a young age and that I live by and why.

MATTHEW 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

There are three reasons why I keep this verse very close to my heart. Let me share with you my 3 “P’s” on why.

1. Priority

We live in a day-and-age where everybody is so preoccupied from dawn to dusk. Some of us can barely keep a schedule. It always seems there is not enough time in the day to accomplish all the tasks we have ahead of us. We call ourselves busy doing many things while, in reality, we are more frustrated than ever. As busy as we are, we are not as productive.

We are moving, but we are not focused because we are out of order. We do many things but our priorities are pretty messed up. We fail to prioritize our lives the right way as instructed by God.

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus is telling us to seek God’s kingdom first. If we google the definition of the word “‘first’, it is defined as ‘coming before all others in time or order.’ And somehow, we tend to miss doing that. Our lives should be reflecting daily that our priority is God.

I love this verse because this has changed the way I prioritize my life on every level. I decided years ago that I would let God be the first in everything. I know sometimes, I failed in many ways, but this remains a goal. As a child of God, I want to place Him above everything.

2. Peace

My second “P” about this verse is peace. Only when you place God first, you can truly experience peace [- anything else will lead to frustration]. If you read the whole chapter, you will notice that Jesus instructs us not to worry about things. The reason why is because all of these extra things will be added to you.

Knowing this should bring peace to your mind because you know that God is a Provider and will never fail you. He knows all of your needs. Just like He clothed the grass of the field and gave the birds food and habitation, He can and will do for us exceedingly, abundantly, above all things we can think and ask.

3. Promise

My third and final “P” is for promise. This verse also has a promise associated with it; that “all these things shall be added to you.” God is a God of promise. What He says, He will do assuredly. But for His promises to come true in your life, you must obey Him and follow His commandments.

God will add whatever is missing in your life, but you must place Him first place. Our God does not share His glory with anyone. If you place your faith in Him and seek Him first with all you got, He will fulfill His promises in your life because He is a ‘Promise Keeper’.

Now, that I share with you one of my favorite verses, I would like to know some of yours. Please share and comments below!
